LEAD ESTIMATOR POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Estimator is responsible for the overall coordination of functions associated with estimating including specification review, cost review, scheduling, risk assessment, and other related duties. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide detailed and accurate construction cost estimates, ensuring the financial viability and profitability of projects. This person must be able to work directly with a diverse team of project managers, architects, and engineers, as well as interfacing with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MUST have 5+ years of experience in heavy civil and/or heavy industrial construction management and estimating
- A Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid or similar software is required
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office products, and Primavera P6
- Is currently living in the St. Louis metro area or has the ability to relocate to St. Louis
- Must be performing at or above expectations in your current role
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Take a lead role in communicating with clients, architects, vendors, suppliers, and other involved parties to gather and coordinate information
- Attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work and respond to RFPs
- Build relationships with vendors, suppliers, clients, and coworkers to ensure effective communication
- Request bids from subcontractors and suppliers; negotiate for competitive pricing
- Review bids and make decisions on the most appropriate selections that best meet the needs of each project
- Develop the total company bid for the project outlining both the costs and timeframes
- Identify the labor, equipment, materials, and production rates for a project
- Calculate direct and indirect costs, cash expenditures, and monitor cost escalations over the duration of the project
- Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other interested parties to determine job requirements and manage costs and timeline throughout the project
- Use blueprints, job specifications, and material costs to prepare cost estimates that encompass known and potential factors over the course of the project
- Review and understand architectural drawings
- Calculate the labor needed including types of labor, hours, schedules, etc
